Metal music is deemed offensive by certain individuals in this country. I, in fact, think that music genres should not be stereotyped with radical behaviors of the musicians and fans per se. Based on one’s opinion does not mean the music itself may ruin one’s attitude just by listening and praising one’s music.
Take Metallica for instance, I would say that, yes, in their live videos which they performed all over the world, they’d shown tonnes of unsuitable behaviors on stage plus some explicit lyrics. Well, that being said, when I went to watch them played in Stadium Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur, surprisingly they abided to whatever custom and law advised by the organizer, not to show any ill-mannered conduct. This reveals that music alone is actually not an entire sin unless entertained with the (characters of the) musician thus making it nonsensical to the eye of the public or the relevant authority intrinsically.
Or, just maybe to take one band alone as an example is really inappropriate however this is the reality faced by the fans of some international metal bands in Malaysia. Most of the band were denied access to enter our country just because what is portrayed in their songs and band; inapt lyrical content. As sick as it sounds, reality checks, that is what we are facing here as fans.
Oit Carcass scum! Why the hell did you fly our flag upside down?
On a recent call to object the entrance of a British band, it somehow backfired when Carcass (the said band) issued an ill-mannered statement condeming our beloved country and uploaded an up-side-down flag on facebook. In our virtue, put patriotism in front of anything else, how could we condone to such act?
Simply put, if you play with one’s flag, you will offend the entire nation or the entire people to be exact. This is my say, true, I don’t like the ruling that denies access of any metal bands in regards of their lyrical contents. Nonetheless, nor could I as Malaysian let an outsider like Carcass posting bad remarks complaining about the “ruling” set in Malaysia, let alone playing with our flag.
We are patriotic crowd, don’t create scorn towards Malaysia flag
There are lots of patriotic bunch out there that do not agree with what this “carcass” did. I’m curious of their statement, “government officials haven’t updated their calendars to the 21st century”. If that is true, then what about them (carcass) who haven’t updated their morals in this 21st century? Everybody complains, but the manner of the complaint counts especially pertaining to this issue that reflects the whole people in the nation.
Carcass, you are not fu**ing alone, but why our flag?
One thing is for sure, we knew many metal bands where their visas have been declined based on the same issue but none of them posted bad remarks about Malaysia (so far i know of). Now, let’s look at Lamb Of God. They were once banned from performing in Malaysia after an uncalled accusation of promoting violence through untold harm and moral decadence. Plus, they were also dubbed as a “satanic band” and anti-godliness, in which I think all bands are deemed as one kind of amusement for the youth and cause moral astray. Well, that is entertainment, ergo we know the impact of it. 🙂
Be that as it may, Lamb of God responded in an appropriate manner.
We sincerely apologize to our amazing fans in Malaysia for the cancellation. However, in light of recent events in the band’s history, and given the increasing fervor of the media coverage regarding the Malaysian controversy, our management feels that the environment surrounding the upcoming show is becoming increasingly volatile. More than anything, we do not wish to jeopardize the safety of our crew, our fans or ourselves. Many thanks to all who have spoken out in our support through this – Lipstiq
They even invited the authority for a discussion.
We would invite anyone offended by our music to engage in a discussion regarding the true motivations behind our work, especially before publicly slandering us based on assumptions and shallow misinterpretation – Lipstiq
So, Carcass, the least you can do is to respect the fans for supporting you guys, give a decent statement and not to incite anger by putting out flag upside down on your post, YOU F**KING MORONS.
Look what other people from other country has to say about it.
Now you know our (or at least my) stand!
#adieu to le monde
